“Default parent” refers to the one parent (often, the one who stays home) who becomes the go-to person for all matters related to the children; from attending to their day-to-day needs, to managing their schedules, health, and well-being. Many people who are considered the default parent complain about it but in the episode we talk about how it is more of a hard truth.
